Hotel Chocolat started life as an online retailer chocolate retailer, but has shops in the UK, US and Middle East. Originally selling mints before moving on to chocolate, Angus Thirlwell and business partner Peter Harris, opened their first bricks and mortar store in Watford in 1998.

The company now has over 60 shops in the UK and US, as well as their own plantation and hotel on the Island of St. Lucia, and plans to expand the cocoa growing side of the business onto to neighbouring islands.

The plantation also lends its name to a rather unique Hotel Chocolat store, The Rabot Estate in the heart of London’s foodie district, Borough Market.

Shop Style

Most Hotel Chocolat stores feature a stylish and modern design with products displayed on simple black shelves and tables that match the packaging. Friendly and knowledgable staff are always happy to help and will often offer samples.

Some stores have café facilities, notably the new Edinburgh Hotel Chocolat which features a unique ‘coffee vs cocoa’ bar, and The Rabot Estate which has a range of cocoa-based savoury foods to choose from.
