Every town in France has at least one chocolatier. The pretty seaside town of Dinard, in Brittany, has Alain Bennet. Like most French chocolate shops the actual shop looks identical to most others: shades of brown, glass cabinets and an array of fresh chocolates and chocolate covered almonds and a few other chocolate shapes.

The staff don’t speak much English but I managed to ascertain they use Valrhona chocolate. You can tell from the chocolates that they do what they can to improve the shelf life – there’s definitely some sugar sryup in these ganaches, but they’re still quite good. They also have an impressive range of nougat.

This shop is a vision of nougat and chocolate dream. I wish I had purchased more during my visit two weeks ago. Now, back in the states, I only have my fond memories, no nougat!
