Every town in France has at least one chocolatier. The pretty seaside town of Dinard, in Brittany, has Alain Bennet. Like most French chocolate shops the actual shop looks identical to most others: shades of brown, glass cabinets and an array of fresh chocolates and chocolate covered almonds and a few other chocolate shapes.
The staff donâ€™t speak much English but I managed to ascertain they use Valrhona chocolate. You can tell from the chocolates that they do what they can to improve the shelf life â€“ thereâ€™s definitely some sugar sryup in these ganaches, but theyâ€™re still quite good.
