Willie Harcourt-Cooze (Person)

Willie Harcourt-Cooze is one of only two bean-to-bar chocolate makers in the UK.

Willie’s journey, starting his own chocolate factory in Devon and getting his “Willie’s Caco” chocolate range off the ground was documented in the Channel 4 TV series “WIllie’s Wonky Chocolate Factory”.

Willie’s passion for chooclate began in 1993 when he visited the cacao hacienda El Tesoro in Venezuela. In 1997, Willie finally managed to buy the plantation, planting 10,000 cacao trees, eventually making 100% chocolate from the beans.

Back in Britiain, Willie slowly assembled the equipment needed to start his chocolate factory in Devon, moving on from 100% cacao cylinders to more consumer friendly 69-72% blocks, using carefully sourced beans from around the world. In 2011, Willie launched his first flavoured chocolate bars and continues to expand his range, while keeping careful control of the chocolate making process.
